Mattox's fiction has appeared in The Missouri Review, Indiana Review, Redivider, AGNI online, the 2007 Best American Nonrequired Reading, and is forthcoming in Narrative Magazine. He's received a Minnesota State Arts Board grant and a Loft Mentor Series Award, and was a finalist for a Bush Artist Fellowship. Mattox is currently finishing up a novel called Sometimes We're Always Real Same-Same.
Born in 1977, Mattox grew up in Minnesota.
Before moving to rural Alaska, he designed skateboards
for The Thurman Lewis Collection, played drums in an indie rock band, and
ran a t-shirt printing business from a basement in Minneapolis.
